Ukrainian Institute of Vegetable Oils & Fats was founded in 1932 with the purpose of scientific and technical support for the enterprises of the oilseed industry of Ukraine. At present 25 processing enterprises are engaged in this area and they are shareholders of "Ukrmaslozhirprom" Joint Stock Company. All of the enterprises are stock companies having more than 80% of private capital. They produce vegetable oils, margarine, mayonnaise and soaps.
The Institute has high scientific potential and many years of practical experience in the oilseed industry. It also has highly qualified staff. It currently employs 133 people. The Institute became the center of technical and technological support for the oilseed processing enterprises in Ukraine. Institute employees work hard to stay on top of the technological progress in the area, they study foreign experience and receive information from colleagues in other countries. The Institute organizes seminars and lectures for employees of the oilseed enterprises and the leading experts of the Institute come to the enterprises and deliver seminars for their managing personnel.
For the last several years the most acute is the problem of purchase and installation of new production equipment at the oilseed enterprises because the equipment they have is very old and nearly worn out. Moreover the market now demands high quality and attractive packing. Most of the enterprises don't have funds to solve these problems. And yet, when limited financing is available, they wish to get a high return from the investment. This is when the enterprises come to the Institute to help them find the best equipment and the most efficient processing technology. They also come to help them prepare a workable business plan and find an investor.
The principal scope of the Institute is to provide consulting and technological assistance to the oilseed enterprises of Ukraine on the following:
- Development of new and modernization of existing technologies of extraction and processing of vegetable oils and fats (hydration, refining, deodorization, winterization, bleaching, hydrogenation, etc.).
- Development of new equipment;
- Development of new technologies and equipment for production of vegetable proteins (isolates, concentrates, vegetable milk, etc.) and animal feeds.
- Development of new technologies and equipment for margarine and mayonnaise production;
- Development of new technologies and equipment for soup production;
- Development of methods and technologies of by-product utilization;
- New construction and re-construction of production facilities;
- Sharing information and training the specialists and technologists of the oilseed processing enterprises;
- Meteorological assistance and quality control technologies;
- Compilation of quarterly and annual brochures with the statistical information on the oilseed industry of Ukraine and review of oilseed industry in Russia and Moldova;
- Development of business plans for implementation and installation of new processing equipment at existing plants and new constructions;
- Market research for oilseed products. Marketing strategy for particular products produced by clients;
